Five Things I’ve Learned This Week – 04/24/13

Five Things I’ve Learned This Week or Was Reminded Of:

1) Unless we are willing to do something different, the outcome will continue to be the same.

2) For many parents, the years between sixteen until the eighteenth birthday are confusing. The teens are not yet adults but have grown past those early teen stages. My advice is that with each passing year, the parenting relationship should morph into mentoring; with the parent’s directives lessening and the teen’s decision-making skills increasing.

3) Failing to nurture relationships will cause them to wilt; just a like plant that is not given water.

4) Burning the candle at both ends really does eventually lead to the candle burning out.

5) I love free things and every Monday in April was free coffee day at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Dunkin Donuts.  I will miss Monday’s in April for that reason but wait, there is one more!

Five Things I’ve Learned This Week or Was Reminded Of:

1) Right after I was done hagging on multi-level marketing enterprises in my post Jesus Isn’t Amway, my friend starts selling anti-cellulite wraps; through a multi-level marketing opportunity. So I will now eat crow on this topic, but hopefully with less cellulite while I eat. But still, my point was not turning Christianity into a product

2) I should have bought Dunkin Donuts stock before a news article hit the media about their potential American-based growth. I better get that stock order in before it goes up. Procrastination and investing don’t mix; but if you’ve hung around here for any length of time, you will know I am a huge Dunkins fan so why not buy stock?

3) God is a God of second chances. Anyone who tells you otherwise, either in words or actions, is a liar. Get away from them quickly. There’s a snake in the grass

4) My identity isn’t tied to my church. It’s a place to grow, learn and serve but doesn’t give me purpose or define my destiny. That is God’s job only

5) A true friend will challenge you, your actions and the way you think. Let it happen; it’s a good thing

Five Things I’ve Learned This Week – 03/27/13

Five Things I’ve Learned This Week or Was Reminded Of:

1) I don’t demand that other people live by the same religious rules, convictions or beliefs that I do. Only pride would tell me they must.

2) Pride is a sin and some would say one of the seven deadly!

3) Failing is an important part of growing as a human being. We learn best when we put ourselves in situations where we could succeed or fail. Growth comes from both possible outcomes.

4) Dunkin Donuts coffee helps speed up my metabolism and therefore keeps my weight more stable. Or at least that’s what I tell myself as I order the coffee accompanied by glazed munchkins (aka donut holes). Yum. Donuts .

5) I love the God I know personally; not just the God that pastors have told me about for years.
